Frankenstein

Frankenstein is a novel by Mary Shelly. The genre of the novel is Gothic fiction and horror story. The story begins with Robert Walton, the captain of a ship sailing towards the North Pole. There he encounters Victor Frankenstein, who was traveling by dog-drawn sledge and was not in good health. Walton takes him on the ship and helps him. Victor tells his story to Walton. Victor first describes his early life in Geneva and his education at university of Ingolstadt to study natural philosophy and chemistry. He was so passionate for his scientific experiments. And one night, he brings his creation to life. When he looked at the monstrosity that he has created, he also afraid and falls into feverish illness. He decides to go to home but before he came, he receives a letter from his father informing him that his youngest brother, William, has been murdered. Grief-stricken, Victor hurries home. While passing through the woods where William was strangled, he catches sight of the monster ...

Sense and sensibility

'Sense and sensibility' is a novel by Jane Austen, published in 1811. It is a romance novel. John Dashwood inherits his father Henry Dashwood's property. He was son of Henry's first wife Fanny Ferrars. Henry Dashwood's second wife had three daughters. Elinor, Marianne and Margaret. They got nothing and homeless go to living with their distance relative Middleton family at Barton park. Elinor was sad because she had developed feelings for Edward Ferrars, brother of Fanny. At Barton park Dashwood family meet retired officer Colonel Brandon, friend of Mr. Middleton and Willoughby who once saves Marianne from running down the hills. Marianne falls in love with Willoughby. Meanwhile Colonel Brandon also attracts toward Marianne. Suddenly Willoughby leaves for London leaving Marianne in miserable condition. Mrs. Middleton's mother Jennings's two nieces Anne and Lucy also arrive at Barton park as guest of Middletons. Lucy tells Elinor about her secret engagement...

Analysis of ghazal 'Dukhi thavane mate'

દુઃખી થાવાને માટે દુઃખી થાવાને માટે કોઇ ધરતી પર નહિ આવે , હવે સદિઓ જશે ને કોઇ પયગંબર નહિ આવે. હવે તો દોસ્તો ભેગા મળી વહેંચીને પી નાખો , જગતનાં ઝેર પીવાને હવે શંકર નહિ આવે. આ બળવાખોર ગઝલો છોડ લખવાનું ' જલન ' નહિતર , લખીને રાખજે અંજામ તુજ સુંદર નહિ આવે. કરીને માફ સ્નેહીઓ , ઊઠાવો એક બાબત પર , ' જલન ' ની લાશ ઉંચકવા અહીં ઈશ્વર નહિ આવે . આમ તો ગઝલનો પ્રત્યેક શે ' ર સ્વતંત્ર હોય છે. પ્રત્યેક શે ' ર અલગ અલગ વાત રજુ કરી શકે. પણ આ ગઝલમાંથી માત્ર એકવાર પસાર થતા જાણી શકીએ કે આ જીવન પ્રત્યેનો નિરાશાવાદી ભાવ અને મુખ્યત્વે ઈશ્વર વિરુદ્ધનું કાવ્ય છે. પહેલી જ પંક્તિમાં કવિનો નિરાશાવાદી સ્વભાવ પ્રતિબિંબિત થાય છે. " દુઃખી થાવાને માટે કોઈ ધરતી પર નહિ આવે , કવિ માટે આ દુનિયા દુઃખોથી ભરપૂર છે , જે કોઈ આ પૃથ્વી પર જન્મ લઈને આવે છે , તે દુઃખી થવા માટે જ આવે છે. જો કે ખરેખર એવુ નથી હોતુ. આ તો અનુભવની બાબત છે. કોઈ માટે આ ધરતી સ્વર્ગથી પણ ચડિયાતી હોઈ શકે. પણ કદાચ કવિને જીવનમાં માત્ર કડવા અનુભવો જ થયા હોય! ને એટલે જ એ ઈચ્છે છે કે આ ધરતી ...

Araby - James Joyce

Araby is a short story of an Irish writer James Joyce. Araby is a name of bazaar in Dublin. It deals with theme of newly felt attraction. The narrator of the story is an unnamed boy who tells his own story. He shares his feelings with readers. The boy was moved with his uncle's family to north Dublin street. Here he comes in contact with one girl, who was his friend Mangan's sister. He begins to feel attraction towards her and he used to watch her hiding himself. She was always in boy's thoughts. One day she asks the narrator if he plans to go Araby and also tells that she is not able to come with him due to one religious ceremony. The boy felt sad but promised that he will bring something for her. After this incident he becomes restless. He can't focus in study, he sees her face when he open the books, He finds lessons tedious. At the morning of destined day the boy reminds his uncle about his plan and asked to come early and find money. But his uncle comes lat...

Ghashiram Kotwal - Vijay Tendulkar

This is a tragedy by Vijay Tendulkar. It is indeed a great tragedy. Protagonist or the central character is Ghashiram, a poor Brahmin from Kanauj who had came to Pune for better life. But here he faces humiliations. The city was ruled by Nana who was full of lust. He was married seven times and still continue. Here Ghashiram works at bavannkhani, a red light area with Gulabi, who entertains Nana. Ghashiram meets Nana here. Nana  joines in dance with Gulabi and hurts his ankle and Ghashiram saves him by offering his back to rest his injured leg. Nana gives necklace in reward. But servants of Gulabi snatches away it and throws him out. Another time in Dakshina ceremony Ghashiram tries to take alms but other Brahmins throws him out saying that he had theft a purse. He was innocence but punished. Nobody was ready to accept him a Brahmin. People were saying, where is your shaved head? Where is your holy thread? Where is your pios look? Where is your holy book?
