Dr Jeckyl And Mr Hyde - R.L.Stevenson

I have not read much scientific fiction, but the one I read was enough to attract you towards scientific fiction. Because it was very famous novel or novella. I had read it as part of study in my first year of B.A. You may also heard about it. "strange case of Dr Jeckyl and Mr Hyde" written by R.L . Stevenson. You have read about it. Haven't you? If not, Then let me talk about it then surely you also will attract towards science fiction.               Story opens when lawyer Mr Utterson, and his cousin Mr Enfield was on their usual Sunday night walk. Mr Enfield tells a incident which he had seen earlier. He had seen an ugly looking man trample a small girl under his feet and walk away. Mr Enfield and other people caught him but not deliver him to police but forced to pay money to the girl's family. That ugly man immediately went and came with cheque signed by Dr Jeckyl. Mr Utterson was confused by this. Because Dr Jeckyl was his friend and he had give

The Monkey's Paw - W.W. Jacobs

Before studying this one act play I had never imagined that how interesting and enjoyable the genre one act play is. Fortunately the first one act play I read was very suspenseful, horrible and mysterious. If you began to read you can't stop until you finish it. I also read it in one sitting, with full of excitement. As the play goes further, your heartbeats also increases every second. Till last moment it will keep you in mystery and horror. Even after ending you may remain in mystery. And the name of This most horrific one act play is, "The Monkey's Paw" by W.W. Jacobs.             This is a one act play in three scenes. This is a powerful horror story where supernatural elements are there and plays vital role. The play opens with the scene of one happy family. The father and son were playing chess and mother enjoys. In the family there were three members. Father Mr. White, mother Mrs. White and their son Herbert. Though Jacobs created scene of happ

The Nightingale And The Rose - Oscar Wilde

The Nightingale And The Rose - Oscar Wilde           Today I am going to write about a short story which is one of my favourite. Children may found it a fairy tale, but it is not a fairy tale at all, it gives very rational idea. You might also finds it fairy tale, but it was in syllabus of my third year of graduation and our professor has told us while teaching this story that this is not a story that should remember only for exam, but you should remember this story for lifetime. And this story is,               "The Nightingale And The Rose"                 By 'Oscar Wilde'            This is a simple story about love which end is very sad. The language is also very simple.             Story starts with the sentence of one unnamed boy, "She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red rose" cried the young student, "but in all my garden there is no red ros."             So by this sentence we can find that the boy has proposed

The Hairy Ape - Eugene O'Neill

In the third year of my B.A. programme, we had a book in our syllabus named "The Hairy Ape" by Eugene O'Neill. It is a play in eight scenes. O'Neill called it A comedy of ancient and modern life in eight scenes . We can say that it is satire on industrial society where lower class people have no value.              The protagonist of the play is Yank. His real name was Robert Smith but he also don't know his own name. He was a stoker in a ship. He was looking like an ape and he also was not able to think. He was happy in doing his work and proud about his job. He thinks that because of him this ship is running.             But his self pride hurt so much when very arrogant daughter of steel trust, Mildred Douglas came in Stoke hole to see how they works on a ship and found Yank very horrible and called him 'The filthy beast'. Furious Yank decided to take revenge and he and Long comes to new York to seek Douglas. There he fought  with a

Gulliver's Travels

Obviously every English literature lover would have heard this name. The great satirical novel, perhaps the greatest satirical novel by Jonathan Swift, ' Gulliver's Travels.'                  Gulliver a surgeon and owner of severel ships decides to go on voyage but encountered with storm his ship wrecks.  When he wakes up Gulliver found himself bound by ropes on the island of Lilliput. This is satire. Even smaller people can make victory over great people. Means, upper class people should not be so proud. Remember Karl Marx. As he has said that lower class people will make victory over superior people and will change rule. Second journey also connected with this idea when Gulliver was powerless. Rule has changed.                  Here also satire can be found. the king asked Gulliver to fight against Blefuscu. Gulliver accepts and they won. Here we can find satire that how nations are fight with each other for no reason, the thirst of power. After living se

Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe's famous novel 'Robinson Crusoe' is a very famous adventure novel.                It uses first person narration. Crusoe tells his own story. His parents wanted to study him law but unwilling Crusoe decided to go on sea voyage. But unfortunately he faced terrible storm and his ship wrecks. He was only surviver on one unknown island.                   He searches the wrecked ship and collects some useful items and bring them on island. He makes  house also. Soon he find that he is not alone, because he found one footprint. He saw some cannibals, who were doing the rituals of human sacrifice. Crusoe saved one's life and that person feel thankful to Crusoe and voluntarily accept Crusoe as his master and do the things for Crusoe. Crusoe teaches Friday English and soon they become best friends.                When the cannibals come to the island again, Friday and Crusoe rescue two of their prisoners, a Spaniard called Christianus and a man f

The Wooden Horse

We were going for the central library visit on 1st August. There I picked up one book, which title was interesting. The title was, The Wooden Horse' by Eric Williams. I thought that it maybe book about something magical and adventurous things, there will one magical wooden horse which can fly perhaps. But my all prejudices fallen wrong when I begun to read the book. There were no horse at all. Not wooden nor real. It was a novel about prisoners and their escaping.               Story starts in prison, Stalag, Poland. There were prisoners like Peter, Bennet, Phillip, and others. They thought about escaping and thought about wooden horse of Troy, means a vaulting horse, a box horse. They made it and started to digging tunnel in ground. John crouched inside the horse and working quickly. The whole of the work was done with a table knife and a red hot poker. Peter worked slowly and carefully. He was alone down there and even a small fall of sand would be enough to pin hi
