One night at the call center thinking activity

1. Does the novel have social realism? If yes, illustrate. If no, what did you expect as social realism which is absent here.

Yes, the novel have social realism. Though Chetan Bhagat has introduced God in it still it remains socially realistic novel because it deals with present problems of the people. The problems facing the characters are problems of majority  of India. People do job they don't like, people suffer from low self confidence, love and break ups, divorce, clash between old age and new generation, and girls like Radhika are everywhere who have to marry when and where parents want. So, all problems characters faced are very much real. Further nationalism and hate towards America is shown which is also present situation. Thus, the novel has presented social issues and environment and do the novel has social realism.

3) Comment on Narrative structure of the novel. Compare with that of Life of Pi.

ON@TCC novel starts with prologue. The writer starts narrating the story. He tells how he met a girl in train. Then the girl introduces one of the character who narrates the whole story. The novel ends with epilogue. So the novel has three faced narration. Another novel 'Life of Pie' has much similarities in narrative technique. This novel also starts with epilogue. Writer tells how his grandfather told him about one man who can make him believe in God. He meets him and one of the character of the story tells whole story. Thus novel also ends with epilogue.

5) What do you understand by self-help book. Is on@tcc self-help book? Illustrate

Self help book is that which helps readers to solve personal problems. It gives confidence, courage and motivation to reader after reading the book.

ON@TCC has some elements of self help book. The writer in the beginning tells readers to write down about their fear, anger and dislike. This helps readers to know and think about their fear, anger and dislike. The message of the God is not philosophical but simple so most of the people can understand. It is like motivational speech. Learn to face failure, intelligence and imagination, reverse gear. Ask these talks gives courage to readers. In epilogue weird saysitJust like life. Rational or not, it just gets better with God in it.

Thus this book ends with giving motivation and courage to readers and so it can be considered as self book.

7) How far can this novel be categorised as cyberpunk?

technology is used like information technology, computer technology. Hacking and such things are part of cyberpunk. In this novel characters are doing job in cash center which is cyber technology. They do one trick with Americans. They afraid them by bug in MS word and tell them it is virus. Vroom and hacks Bakshi's email and writes mail to Esha and blackmail him and by that money starts web designing company. So, there are some elements and use of cyber technology in the novel.

To the Indians who died in South Africa - T.S. Eliot

A man's destination is his own village,  His own fire, and his wife's cooking;  To sit in front of his own door at sunset  And see his grandson, and his neighbour's grandson  Playing in the dust together.  Scarred but secure, he has many memories  Which return at the hour of conversation,  (The warm or the cool hour, according to the climate)  Of foreign men, who fought in foreign places,  Foreign to each other.  A man's destination is not his destiny,  Every country is home to one man  And exile to another. Where a man dies bravely  At one with his destiny, that soil is his.  Let his village remember.  This was not your land, or ours: but a village in the Midlands,  And one in the Five Rivers, may have the same graveyard.  Let those who go home tell the same story of you:  Of action with a common purpose, action  None the less fruitful if neither you nor we  Know, unt...

Joy and woe woven are fine - William Blake

In this short poem William Blake wants to give message that joy and grief, both are part of life and both are good. He says joy and woe are woven fine. Woven means things which are attached to each other. Both happiness and grief are fine. They are cloths of our soul. In every grief, there are also joy we need to find it. We are not here for only happiness or for only pain. But we are made for both. And when we know that joy and woe both are part of our life, we can live happily in grief also. So, in this poem poet wants to tell that accept both joy and pain. Do not become unhappy when sad moments come, there are always happy moments also. Know that both are part of everyone's life and live happily. That is all poet wants to say in the poem.
